Connection, learning, and collaboration in the Kearsarge Area
FEED Kearsarge is a coalition of local partners working to advance food security across partisan lines through Food Expansion, Education, and Distribution right here in the Kearsarge / Lake Sunapee Region.
Data meets action: How do we move from feeding people to ending hunger to building resilient local and regional food systems that nourish all of us?
The Food Security Summit on Saturday, April 18th is an opportunity for all stakeholders working to build greater food security to come together, build relationships, share information, and leave with action items.
Join us to uncover the latest food security data for the Kearsarge Region and learn how food access coalitions like FEED Kearsarge are shifting the needle from emergency response to systemic change for long term community wellbeing!
The day will include:
- An opening panel and Q&A on Addressing Regional Hunger through Collective Action with Chelsey Canavan from the Center for Advancing Rural Health Equity presenting on a NEW Food Security Report with data from the Kearsarge Region and Sarah Harpster from NH Hunger Solutions discussing Food Access Coalitions
- Breakout discussions facilitated by local and statewide leaders on a range of topics from home and community gardens to policy and advocacy. You choose what interests you most when you register for the Summit. The goal is to generate in-depth discussion in each topic and use our unique perspectives to better understand how we can address food insecurity from multiple angles.
- A closing panel and Q&A on The Last Mile: Creative solutions for getting food to people when they need it with Cassie McCormack-Lashier, Food Security Coordinator at the Kearsarge Food Hub discussing Community FREEdge Model; Susan Morrison, Co-Founder of Food For Thought School Backpack Program discussing a backpack program that serves the elementary schools in the Kearsarge Regional School District; Sophie Courser-Kellerman, Co-Founder and Farmer at Alprilla Farm discussing sponsorships for Community Support Agriculture shares; and Elsy Cipriani, Executive Director of the NH Food Bank discussing mobile food pantries
- An Exhibitor Fair to help you connect to a range of efforts working to address food insecurity and support the Kearsarge Community.
- Food is provided! Baked goods from Sweet Beet Cafe, coffee from Wayfarer Coffee Roasters, and lunch from Appleseed Catering.
The event is designed to strengthen relationships among stakeholders working across sectors and beyond party lines to build greater food security; increase awareness of existing efforts and resources; build a stronger FEED Kearsarge coalition with shared goals; and move ideas into action through practical solutions that help get food to people.
It's FREE to join us so everyone can join regardless of financial barriers. Donations are appreciated.
